In terms of their design, generally, putters fall into two categories: mallets and blades. Mallets, with their large perimeter weighted and face-balanced qualities, support a straight back-and-through putting stroke, while blades, which are generally limited in their overall surface area and traditional in look, are for those looking for greater feel in their putting, allowing the putter to be handled in an arcing motion.
